Rachael Ray Nutrish?

By Rachel Ray

First off, sorry if this question has already been asked, I haven’t been on in a few days/weeks. What do ya’ll think of her new dog food? It’s sold at Walmart, but corn is not listed in the top 3 ingredients, beef (or chicken) is the very first one. Has anybody tried it yet?

The store that I buy my Canidae from is about to close down, and the next store is over 2 and a half hours away. With gas prices, and shipping prices the way they are, we are simply not going to be able to afford to feed Canidae anymore. There is a supplier about 2 hours away that carries Blue Buffalo, though, experiences with that?

So anyways, compared to the “grocery store brands” how do you think RR’s Nutrish stands up?

All opinions/answers welcome, no rudeness as always please. =]
Good answers guys, I’ll check the rest of them after I get off work =]

it’s actually good that corn isn’t one of the main ingredients

corn doesn’t provide that much nutrition for dogs, they can’t digest it, it’s just used as a filler

so I’d say it’s very healthy

Hmm..I’ve heard good things about Blue Buffalo, But certainly wouldn’t drive 2 hours to buy it.

From what I found, it doesn’t look good. It doesn’t have any artificial preservatives or by-products, but it’s mostly fillers. Somewhere they compared it to Purina One, not good.
I’d say it’s better than those other foods they sell there though!

I really doubt that she had much say in what went into the food. She’s a good tool. People see her, and she cooks healthy stuff so people are going to think her dog food is healthy.

I don’t know anything about RR Nutrish, but my dog eats Blue Bufflo (dry food) and loves it. Since she’s been on it, I’ve noticed an improvement in her coat. What I like about it is they not use animal by-products and their gluten-free recipes do not contain any artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. Their food also does not have corn, wheat or soy, which have been known to trigger allergies.

Too much corn, and soybean meal and too many grains overall for my taste.

“Chicken, Chicken Meal, Brewers Rice, Corn Meal, Soybean Meal, Animal Fat (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Corn Gluten Meal, Brown Rice, Oatmeal, Dried Beet Pulp, Natural Flavor, Dicalcium Phosphate, Salt, Calcium Carbonate, Dehydrated Alfalfa, Dried Peas, Dried Tomatoes, Dried Carrots, Potassium Chloride, Choline Chloride, Olive Oil, Vitamin E Supplement, Zinc Sulfate, Ferrous Sulfate, Iron Oxide, Dried Parsley, L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate (Source of Vitamin C), Mixed Tocopherols, Niacin, Manganese Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, D-Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Sodium Selenite, Vitamin A Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (Source of Vitamin K activity), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Potassium Iodide, Cobalt Sulfate, Folic Acid”

The first ingredients are:
Beef
chicken meal
brewers rice
corn meal
soybean meal

Just because it has Rachel Ray’s name on it doesn’t make it nutritional and healthy. That’s like saying Paula Dean cooks healthy!!

Just another way to make more millions for her and the company. She’s a great marketing tool. It wouldn’t hurt to write to her and explain that she would be the “dog’s woof” if she put her face on something that was really healthy for their pets. She then could REALLY call her food Nutrish!!!

~ It is not a good food. It has corn meal in the food. The is the first red flag it is not a good food.

The dog treats have High Fructose corn syrup.

She will basically put her name on anything to make some money. TV star does not make her a guru at dog food, in fact she doesn’t have a clue about quality food for dogs and it just makes her look bad to those of us that do understand quality food for our dogs.

You might as well buy Ol Roy for this type of quality.

Here’s the ingredients:
Chicken, Chicken Meal, Brewers Rice, Corn Meal, Soybean Meal, Animal Fat (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Corn Gluten Meal, Brown Rice, Oatmeal, Dried Beet Pulp, Natural Flavor, Dicalcium Phosphate, Salt, Calcium Carbonate, Dehydrated Alfalfa, Dried Peas, Dried Tomatoes, Dried Carrots, Potassium Chloride, Choline Chloride, Olive Oil, Vitamin E Supplement, Zinc Sulfate, Ferrous Sulfate, Iron Oxide, Dried Parsley, L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate (Source of Vitamin C), Mixed Tocopherols, Niacin, Manganese Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, D-Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Sodium Selenite, Vitamin A Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (Source of Vitamin K activity), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Potassium Iodide, Cobalt Sulfate, Folic Acid

It starts off well, the first 2 ingredients are good, but then it goes downhill from there. Lots of fillers and grains. It’s probably one of the better foods sitting on Walmart shelves, but that’s not saying much.

I love Rachael Ray’s cook books, but I’d recommend sticking to her for “human” recipes and finding a better dog food from another brand.

Do you have any farm stores close to you? Many farm supply stores carry “Chicken Soup” which is a good food.

Or you could see how much shipping is to order Canidae online and have it mailed to you.

Eli ate Blue for about 8 months and did really well on it. We only recently switched to Canidae when we adopted Molly. It was simply easier to feed them both the same food rather than buying Large Breed puppy for Eli and Small Breed adult for Molly.

Our vet sells Canidae. I don’t know how large of a town/city you live in, but, maybe one of the vets carries it. I live in a fairly small area. We have 5 or 6 different vets here. Mine is the only one (that I know of) who doesn’t sell Hills Science Diet but carries Canidae instead.

I don’t so much about RR’s food. I agree with the person who suggested a farm supply store. Our Tractor Supply doesn’t carry Blue, though. They carry Nutro Max, which, I would choose over RR.

You’re a good pet owner, so, you know to watch for allergic reactions if you do choose to swtich to RR food.

Darn gas prices are affecting way too many things…it’s sad.
