Ray’s immensely likable personality, her energy levels combined with her genuine warmth allows her audience to connect with her and her show. All in all, the show is the true essence of Ray.
The imaginative and colorful sets along with a variety of celebrity guests create large viewership. The cornerstone of the show really is Ray’s creative cooking. It is a treat to watch her prepare meals with her various guests and share a conversation as well as culinary tips with them.
Her questions and answers segment where she interacts with the audiences adds a special touch to the show. The show is not just meant to give meaning to the viewer’s time, it also seeks to validate, fulfill and change people’s lives. For instance, in one episode Ray took a woman skydiving - this had been her lifelong fear. Later, the woman stood before the audience and testified that all her fears were overcome due to Rachael’s ‘can-do’ philosophy.
The Rachael Ray show has often been criticized for over-exposing Ray in the media. Critics suggest there may be an audience backlash and that the viewers who like her only in the kitchen may be turned off by her switch to a talk show host.
However, Ray’s past television experience has made the transition to a talk show host simpler and viewers like her talk show style as well. The show’s ratings have been soaring and it won an Emmy for its 2007 season.
